Lake Solutions on show

We enjoyed taking Lake Solutions ‘on the road’ recently, spending a few days in Cheltenham at The Business Growth Show. Not only did we exhibit, but we also enjoyed networking with other exhibitors and visitors, as well as sharing insights with representatives from multiple industry sectors. The sun shone across Cheltenham Racecourse in early May, which made the event seem even more upbeat.

Our time in Cheltenham began on the Tuesday evening, with a pre-show dinner at Brassiere Blanc in the heart of Cheltenham – one of a chain of restaurants owned by renowned French chef, Raymond Blanc. The evening proved to be a good opportunity to meet other exhibitors and discover what they were hoping to achieve from the show.

In fact, it was an ideal way to prepare for the coming two days in a friendly, unpressured environment – as well as enjoy the atmosphere in the restaurant, which is situated in restored Regency ballroom! The food was pretty good too!

On Wednesday morning, the exhibition began, and we met visitors and exhibitors alike to tell them about what we offer at Lake Solutions. This included talking about how we can support a company’s website and, specifically, about our relationship with the ‘friendly CMS’ Umbraco.

After working with Umbraco for a number of years, we were proud that Lake Solutions was named as an Umbraco Silver Partner in 2024. Umbraco offers developers high flexibility, security and scalability; while it gives users and content editors an easy-to-use interface and an intuitive editing experience.

We found delegates particularly wanted to learn about personalising content and how they could integrate their CRM with their website. Others wanted to know about using their website to better generate leads. At Lake Solutions, we have many years of experience to share and we provided a fair amount of on-the-spot consultancy, looking at business’ current website and giving some quick ideas about how to make it perform better.

It was interesting to note that the delegates and other exhibitors we spoke with were on vastly different positions on their digital journeys. Some businesses simply had a website as they thought they should, while others were very keen that their websites worked hard for their business.

We were able to offer hints and tips to visitors, wherever they were on their path. Interestingly, some visitors to our stand who thought their website was pretty slick were surprised when we pointed out aspects which obviously weren’t performing properly. We were pleased to give them some guidance and ideas to consider moving forward.

Wednesday night was time for an ‘after show’ event with other exhibitors, at The Nook On Five in Cheltenham, an event sponsored by BT Local Business. The beautiful weather was a bonus, as we were able to enjoy what is apparently the town’s ‘only rooftop restaurant’.

On the Thursday morning, as well as continuing to talk to visitors on our stand, we also took the opportunity to listen to keynote speaker, Christine Braithwaite – who, as a certified Google Digital Garage trainer, mentors SMEs and entrepreneurs in digital skills.

She is a seasoned marketeer, rugby player, and Chair of Women’s Rugby at Firwood Waterloo Rugby Club in Liverpool, and bought delegates an interesting mix of marketing expertise, business improvement know-how and sporting spirit. Christine gave a fascinating insight on discovering your own particular leadership style, navigating change and motivating your team – whether leading a team or steering your own project.
